Top 5 Anti-Ageing Skincare Tips
I wanted to share my 5 Top Ageing Skincare Tips! Here we go:
1. Oil Cleansing
Oil cleansing might sound like a cardinal sin to those who believe oil-free is the way to go for a sensible skin care regimen. However, if you have oily skin and you strip your skin of oils using an alcohol cleanser, then you're skin reacts by producing more oil to make up for that oil lost. This oily feedback can go into a vicious cycle.
Remember, there's a big difference between applying a cosmetically formulated cleansing oil versus rubbing canola from your kitchen onto your skin
Oil cleansers are growing in popularity - they can clean oily skin without making it more oily. I was surprised that me skin became less oily when I went from an alcohol-based cleanser to an oil based cleanser.
2. Exfoliate your skin
Exfoliate your skin twice or three times a week with normal skin (or once a week with sensitive skin). As we get older, our cellular turnover takes longer and longer to happen so you have a layer of dead skin - regular exfoliation encourages your skin to turnover more quickly.
3. Use Sunscreen
Use sunscreen day-in-day-out. Sunscreen is the main building block of a skincare regime - make sure you use sunscreen everyday and apply it liberally every few hours as most people don't wear enough sunscreen.
4. Use Vitamin C Daily
Vitamin C is an anti-aging superstar. Here are 3 reasons as to why you should use Vitamin C:
1. Vitamin C has been shown to increase collagen production while preventing wrinkles
2. Vitamin C helps reduce acne scars and sun spots
3. Vitamin C protects your skin against free radical damage (UV rays, pollution and natural ageing)
5. Use A Retinol-Based Cream Daily
There are so many luxury creams at department stores that sell for hundreds and hundreds of dollars whereas Retinol (a derivative of Vitamin A) can be purchased for just a few dollars from the pharmacy, or get a subscription from your Dermatologist for Retinol.
Retinol is basically the only product proven to reduce wrinkles and ageing. It can take a few months for results to truly show so don't give up on retinol if you don't see results straight away.
The Ordinary has a great affordable Retinol that many people use in their daily regime. This is a great gateway retinoid that you can start before using something stronger.
